David Azzopardi Obituary: Malta FA Mourns Former Midfielder Who Died At 72
The Malta Football Association is deeply saddened by the passing of former Maltese international midfielder, David Azzopardi, who died yesterday at the age of 72.
Azzopardi earned 11 caps for the Malta National Team, with his debut being a historic one in the famous victory over Greece in 1975. He became a legend at Sliema Wanderers, the club he both played for and supported over a distinguished ten-year period. His career was also marked by spells with Msida St Joseph and San Gwann.

His time at the top level was unfortunately cut short at just 29 years old due to a persistent injury that plagued his final three seasons with the Wanderers, forcing him to abandon top-flight football, though he continued playing in the lower divisions.
